Renvers
The renvers is an exercise where the horse’s forehand is flexed inward and the hindquarters are flexed outward.
The horse is bent laterally from nose to tail and looks in the direction of travel.
The renvers is an exercise on two tracks and performed in 3 or 4 tracks. It has the same gymnastic value as the travers.
The difficulty with the renvers is that the horse has no support from the wall for its forehand. This means the horse must execute the exercise increasingly on its own balance and must be highly obedient to the aids.
The renvers improves the horse’s balance, coordination, and lateral flexion. It also serves as excellent preparation for the counter-canter and the flying change.
The renvers can be performed in walk, trot, and canter.
