The musculature of a left- or right-handed horse
The musculature of a crooked horse is also different; there is a distinct difference between the left and right side of the horse.

For a left-handed horse, it is as follows:
-
- The right side is the bulge (convex) side.
- The left side is the hollow side.
- The right side is long, loosely muscled, and supple.
- The right hind leg is the carrying hind leg. This leg is supple and flexible.
- The left side is the hollow side.
- The left side is short and strongly muscled. It is the stiff, rigid side.
- The left hip is positioned higher.
- The left hind leg is the pushing (propelling) hind leg; this is the rigid, straight hind leg.
- It pushes forward toward the right.
- The horse will perform an exercise more easily on one side than on the other. In this case, the horse will execute the travers more easily to the left than to the right.
For a right-handed horse, everything is exactly opposite.
